Frequently asked questions

Amazon image requirements & compliance

How many images should an Amazon listing have?

Amazon requires at least one main product image. Its current seller guidance recommends adding at least six additional images and one video, when those assets are relevant and available. That is guidance, not a universal package size: the useful number depends on the product, variations, category and information shoppers need. A strong gallery normally assigns each image a clear job—such as identifying the product, explaining scale, showing important details, demonstrating use or clarifying what is included—rather than filling every available position with repeated views.

Does the Amazon main image need a pure white background?

For standard product listings, Amazon’s main-image guidance calls for a pure white background so the product is shown clearly and consistently in search and detail-page contexts. The requirement applies to the main image, not every secondary image. Secondary images can use environments, diagrams and explanatory layouts when they remain accurate and comply with the relevant policies. Always check the current marketplace and category rules because some product types or programs can have additional requirements.

Why was my Amazon main image rejected?

Start with the exact rejection notice rather than guessing. Possible causes include an incorrect background, added text or graphics, watermarks, showing the wrong quantity or unrelated accessories, cropping the product, using a non-product illustration, insufficient resolution, a mismatch with the product being sold, or a category-specific restriction. More than one issue may be present. Prodography can review the visual file against the notice and current image requirements, but Amazon makes the platform decision and no studio can guarantee approval.

Can I add text, logos or badges to Amazon product images?

Do not add promotional text, floating logos, badges, watermarks or decorative graphics to the main image. Branding that physically appears on the actual product or packaging is different from adding a marketing overlay, but the main image still needs to represent the item accurately. Secondary images and A+ Content can communicate features and comparisons, subject to Amazon’s content policies and the seller’s responsibility to substantiate product claims. Keep unsupported awards, guarantees and comparative statements out of the artwork.

Does the product need to fill 85% of the main image?

Amazon’s current image guidance states that the product should fill 85% or more of the main image frame. That does not mean cropping off important parts or changing the product’s proportions. Show the complete item being sold, use the space efficiently and keep the presentation accurate. Sets, multipacks, apparel and category-specific products may require additional checks, so the current category guidance and any Seller Central notice still control.

What is the minimum image size for Amazon?

Amazon’s public technical guidance lists 500 pixels on the longest side as the minimum. Larger files are usually more useful for detail viewing; Amazon commonly recommends 1,600 pixels or more on the longest side for a strong zoom experience. Do not treat 1,600 pixels as the only valid dimension for every category or upload path. The file should also remain sharp, correctly cropped and within Amazon’s current maximum-size and category requirements.

Which file formats does Amazon accept for product images?

Amazon’s current public product-image guidance lists JPEG/JPG, TIFF, PNG and non-animated GIF. Use a color-managed, high-quality export that preserves the product accurately without unnecessary file weight. Do not assume WEBP is universally accepted across Amazon image upload paths unless the target Seller Central interface explicitly confirms it at the time of upload.

Should Amazon product images be square or 4:5?

Amazon does not publish one universal 1:1 or 4:5 rule for every category and image position. Choose dimensions that keep the complete product clear, meet the pixel requirements, use the frame effectively and follow the target category’s current rules. A square canvas is common in production workflows, but “common” is not the same as mandatory. Do not crop a product unnaturally or invent a mobile ratio rule that Amazon has not published for the relevant category.

Can I use 3D renders for the Amazon main image?

Do not assume a pure 3D render is accepted as the main image for every marketplace or category. Amazon’s main-image guidance emphasizes an accurate representation of the actual product, and current public materials do not provide a universal guarantee that a rendered main image will be accepted. Real product photography is the safer default for the first image. Accurate 3D/CGI can still be valuable for suitable secondary images, cutaways, exploded views, difficult angles or products that are not yet practical to photograph. The final use should be checked against the current category rules.

Can I use AI-generated images on Amazon?

AI use does not remove the seller’s responsibility for accuracy, rights and compliance. Amazon’s current Product Image Guide requires images containing realistic AI-generated people to carry the relevant metadata before upload. That specific requirement should not be expanded into a blanket statement that every other AI edit is automatically permitted. Check the current upload guidance, make sure the product and included items are represented truthfully, obtain the necessary rights, and avoid generated details that could mislead shoppers.

Content strategy & buying decisions

How much should I budget for Amazon listing images?

There is no reliable universal market price because scopes that look similar can include very different work. The quote depends on the number and type of final assets, whether usable source material already exists, and whether the project needs photography, retouching, models, locations, props, 3D/CGI, multiple variants, localization, video or editable source files. Use Prodography’s current service page for its published starting price and inclusions, then request a written scope for the actual product. We do not use forum price ranges as an industry benchmark or compare a full production scope with an undefined per-image price.

Do lifestyle images improve conversion?

Lifestyle images can help shoppers understand scale, handling, environment and use context when those scenes are accurate and relevant. They are not a guaranteed conversion tactic. Results also depend on the product, traffic quality, price, reviews, offer, competition and the clarity of the rest of the listing. Use lifestyle content when it answers a real buying question; do not add a scene only because it looks attractive or claim that the image itself will increase sales.

What is the difference between Listing Images and A+ Content?

Listing Images appear in the product gallery near the title and purchase area. They need to identify the product quickly and communicate the most important purchase information in a limited sequence. A+ Content appears farther down the detail page and gives eligible sellers more space for brand presentation, feature explanation, comparisons and supporting visual modules. The two should share accurate product facts and a consistent visual direction, but they perform different communication jobs and are delivered as separate scopes unless a combined package is quoted.

Is A+ Content worth it, and who is eligible?

A+ Content can be useful when a product needs more space for brand context, feature explanation or comparison, but it does not guarantee a conversion increase. Amazon’s current public guidance makes A+ available to eligible Professional selling accounts associated with registered brands through the relevant Brand Representative or Reseller role, and to qualifying generic products in the catalog. Premium A+ is a separate level with additional eligibility conditions shown in A+ Content Manager. Check the current account and marketplace status before commissioning a specific module set.

Should I improve my Listing Images or A+ Content first?

Fix any main-image compliance problem first because it can affect whether the primary image is accepted and how the product is presented in the gallery. After that, prioritize the clearest purchase-information gap. If shoppers cannot identify the product, understand the set or see essential dimensions in the gallery, improve Listing Images first. If the gallery already covers the primary decision points but the product needs deeper explanation, comparison or brand context, A+ Content may be the better next scope. There is no universal order for every listing.

How should I choose an Amazon visual production studio?

Review complete, relevant work rather than isolated hero images. Confirm exactly what the quote delivers, who handles photography, design, 3D or video, how feedback and revisions work, which usage rights and source files are included, and whether the team has handled products with similar visual or production constraints. Ask how the studio deals with uncertain claims and Amazon requirements. A product description, category, required deliverables, variant count and private reference material are enough for an initial conversation; you should not have to publish or provide an Amazon Listing URL by default.

Can better images increase Amazon sales?

Clearer images can help shoppers understand the product, compare options and judge whether it fits their needs. That can support the buying decision, but images alone do not determine sales. Traffic, price, offer, reviews, inventory, competition, product quality and listing accuracy also matter. Prodography can improve the visual communication and deliver the agreed assets; it does not promise a specific CTR, conversion rate, sales lift or ranking result without valid measured evidence from the seller.

Should I create Amazon images in-house or outsource them?

Choose based on capability and total workload, not on an assumption that one model is always better. In-house production can work well when the team has available equipment, design capacity, product knowledge, claim evidence and time to manage revisions. Outsourcing can make sense when the project needs specialist photography, models, locations, 3D/CGI, video, additional capacity or an external production system. Compare the exact deliverables, internal time, coordination risk, rights, source files and compliance responsibilities. The seller still owns final product accuracy and platform decisions in either model.

Project setup, samples & delivery

How long does an Amazon visual project take?

A standard Prodography project typically takes around two weeks after the complete brief and the required approved sample or usable source assets have been received. Models, special locations, complex 3D/CGI, multiple variants, new filming requirements or delayed feedback can extend the schedule. The written quote and confirmed production plan control the actual timeline. Do not ship a sample or promise an Amazon launch date until the scope, receiving details and dependencies are confirmed.

Do you need a physical product sample?

Not for every project. A final approved sample is required when the scope depends on real product photography, physical measurement, material verification or product interaction. Usable existing photographs, accurate renders, engineering files or other approved source assets may be enough for some Listing Images, A+ Content or 3D/CGI work. Prodography reviews the available material before quoting and explains whether a sample is necessary. A concept image or unfinished prototype should not be treated as proof of the final product.

How many revision rounds are included?

Standard Prodography Listing Images and A+ Content packages include up to four consolidated revision rounds within the approved direction. One round means one organized feedback list, not a series of separate messages. New deliverables, a new creative direction or changes caused by incomplete or changed product information can require a revised quote. Photography, 3D/CGI, Product Video and other custom production follow the revision terms in their written quote; the four-round rule must not be applied to those scopes automatically.

Can my factory send a sample directly before the inventory goes to FBA?

Yes, after the project scope and receiving instructions are confirmed, a supplier or sourcing agent in China can usually send the final approved sample to Prodography’s Shenzhen receiving contact before the main inventory ships to FBA. This can let visual production begin while the approved product is still in China. Prodography’s role is visual production; it does not replace manufacturing quality control, product certification, freight forwarding, customs work or FBA preparation. Return, onward shipping, unusual storage and special handling should be agreed in writing.

What should I send for a quote?

Tell us what the product is and which final deliverables you need, such as Listing Images, A+ Content, Product Video, Photography or 3D/CGI. Add the variant count, dimensions and any usable private reference material when relevant. An Amazon Listing URL, ASIN or storefront is not required for the initial conversation. If a specific identifier later becomes genuinely necessary, we will explain why and you can share it privately and voluntarily.

How quickly will you reply?

We normally reply within 0–12 hours. Working hours are 09:00–23:00 Beijing Time. The first response may confirm the next step or ask a focused question when the answer materially affects the scope, timing or price; it is not a promise that a final quote will always be completed within the same window.

What happens to the product sample afterward?

Tell us whether the sample should be retained, returned or sent onward after the agreed work is complete. Return freight, onward shipping, unusual storage and special handling are charged separately when applicable. The written project scope should record the agreed instruction; do not assume that sending a product to the studio includes indefinite storage, disposal or FBA preparation.

How do I pay?

After the scope is confirmed, Prodography normally sends a PayPal invoice or bank-transfer instructions. Some clients can pay by card through PayPal. Staged payment may be available for larger custom projects when it is included in the written quote. Payment method, currency, schedule and any third-party costs should be confirmed before production begins.

Are editable source files included?

Editable source files are included only when the written scope says they are included. Ask before the project starts if you need layered design files, raw footage, editable motion files, 3D source files or another working-file format. Final upload-ready assets do not automatically include every production file, font, stock license or third-party element used to create them.

Production capabilities

Do you have your own large studio?

Prodography uses appropriate Shenzhen-based design and production resources according to the confirmed scope. A project may require a controlled product setup, a larger location, models or specialist production support. We do not describe every location or production partner as a company-owned studio. The quote should identify the production needs that affect scope and price rather than implying that one fixed facility is used for every product.

Do you provide models, photography and 3D?

Yes. Product Photography and 3D/CGI can each be purchased as an independent scope, and they can also be used as production methods inside Listing Images, A+ Content or Product Video. Models, locations, props and specialist production requirements are added when the approved concept needs them. AI-assisted production may also support an agreed scope, but it is not a substitute for product accuracy, rights or platform compliance. The written quote defines what is included.

Trust, confidentiality, agencies & rights

What does Amazon SPN mean here?

Prodography is an Amazon SPN service provider based in Shenzhen, China. SPN status identifies the service provider; it does not mean Amazon endorses every project, certifies individual work or guarantees approval or performance.

Can you sign an NDA?

Yes. If the product, launch plan or source material is confidential, send the NDA before sharing sensitive files. Public case or Portfolio use should be agreed separately in writing; a private project is not automatically marketing material. Sensitive product identifiers and customer-provided links remain confidential inputs and are not published or redistributed without specific permission.

Can agencies work with you across several clients or SKUs?

Yes. Sourcing agencies, ecommerce service teams and other approved partners can use a repeatable quoting and production workflow across selected clients or SKUs. Referral, preferred-supplier, white-label and agency-support arrangements are confirmed separately so client ownership, communication, branding, attribution and commercial terms remain clear. No partnership or referral becomes active merely because a project or introduction is discussed.

Who owns the final assets?

The approved final deliverables are provided for the usage agreed in the written quote. Client trademarks and supplied materials remain the client’s property. Editable source files, raw footage, 3D working files, third-party licenses, talent or location permissions and expanded usage rights should be confirmed before production. The final exported files do not automatically transfer every underlying production asset or third-party right.
